Institute for Infection Prevention and Hospital Epidemiology (IIK)
The principal responsibility of the Institute for Infection Prevention and Hospital Hygiene at the Medical Centre – University of Freiburg is to protect patients from infections. Its daily job is thus to detect these at an early stage to initiate interventions targeted at preventing new infections. In this way, we contribute to ensuring that the Medical Center can provide high safety for patients and employees. Dr. Tjibbe Donker (Lead Team 2) is an infectious disease modeler with broad experience reconstructing and analyzing healthcare networks from patient admission data, having worked in the Netherlands, the UK, and Germany. His work focuses on understanding the influence of the (static) healthcare network structure on the spread of HAI and AMR, including the translation to potential infection prevention and control measures.

Daniel Goseberg, our PHD Student, building on his expertise from the fields of maths and medicine he analyzes the effects of temporal aggregation on hospital networks.
