The proposed consortium includes mathematical and computational modeling expertise, infection control within healthcare settings, and public health decision-making. The partners in both countries have independent experience with reconstructing and analyzing hospital networks and translating the findings into policy recommendations. Up to this point, the analyses done by each partner have relied on different methods and assumptions. The bilateral collaboration will, therefore, bring together complementary experience and knowledge that will strengthen both sides. Furthermore, the partners in France and Germany have data on patient admissions needed to reconstruct the networks available in their respective countries. Because the hospital networks in France and Germany will have unique properties and overlaps, establishing close collaboration will allow us to identify commonalities and differences between these networks. These differences and commonalities are essential to differentiate between potential control strategies specifically designed for a particular country or those that may apply to any health care system, irrespective of the country. Finally, the five consortium partners share similar public health objectives, complementary competencies, and experiences. They also have a history of collaborations: partners 1, 2, and 3 have participated in the European project NetWork to Improve Surveillance (NeWIS) in 2018-2023, and partners 1, 3, and 4 have worked together since 2015 on various projects related to the spread of pathogens on networks (SPHINx project funded by ANR), and more recently on Covid-19 related projects. They are also part of the Coordinated Action on Modeling (Action Coordonnée Modelisation) of the ANRS-MIE.
